What changes in winter are the conditions that lead to a fall and the time a worker can safely wait after a fall is arrested.<\/p><ul><li><strong>Wind:<\/strong> It unbalances workers, catches large-surface loads such as panels and sheets, and can push mobile elevating work platforms and scaffolds past their safe operating limits.<\/li><li><strong>Ice and snow:<\/strong> A thin layer of ice on a roof, scaffold board, ladder rung or steel beam is often invisible and multiplies the risk of slipping. Snow can hide roof edges, fragile roof lights and anchor points.<\/li><li><strong>Cold:<\/strong> It reduces dexterity and concentration. Simple steps such as locking a carabiner or adjusting a harness buckle become harder in gloves and are easier to skip.<\/li><li><strong>Short days:<\/strong> Working into an early dusk reduces visibility and control.<\/li><li><strong>Rescue time:<\/strong> A worker left suspended loses body heat faster in the cold. Delays in rescue have more serious consequences in winter.<\/li><\/ul><h2>Working at Height in Windy Conditions: When Should You Stop?<\/h2><p>In T\u00fcrkiye, the Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment states that temporary work at height must only be carried out in weather conditions that do not endanger workers&#8217; health and safety, and that the equipment&#8217;s user manual and production standard come first when assessing those conditions. The Regulation on Occupational Health and Safety in Construction Works also requires workers to be protected from weather that could harm their health and safety, and prohibits work at sites exposed to strong wind until the necessary safety measures are in place. Neither regulation sets a single wind speed limit for every job. The limit is set by the manufacturer&#8217;s instructions, the site risk assessment and the type of work.<\/p><p>Useful reference points on site:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Read the weather report:<\/strong> The Turkish Ministry of Labour&#8217;s (\u00c7SGB) safe construction cards point out that &#8220;strong wind&#8221; in weather reports means roughly 39\u201361 km\/h, and recommend checking the wind forecast for the work location before starting.<\/li><li><strong>On mobile elevating work platforms<\/strong>, the wind limit on the manufacturer&#8217;s label and manual applies. Loose leg straps can put the arrest force in the wrong place and even let the wearer slip out of the harness. Always readjust the harness over winter clothing, leaving just enough room to slide a flat hand under the straps. The harness should be worn over the outermost layer, with the rear D-ring exposed and nothing blocking the lanyard connection.<\/p><h3>Ropes, lanyards and webbing<\/h3><p>Polyamide and polyester equipment absorbs water when wet.
